Lorimer Higgins was born in Westchester Station, Cumberland County, Nova Scotia in 1934. Mr. Higgins has been playing since the age of 14 and is from a big family, most of whom played the fiddle. At 17, he played on live radio station CKCL in Truro, Nova Scotia and played with a popular group called “Lorimer Higgins & the Bible hill Swingsters”. Lorimer has competed in the Canadian Grand Masters Fiddling Championships and won several years. He has also won the Maritime Fiddle Contest in the “60 and over” age group three years.
Lorimer is one of the founders of the Lunenburg County Fiddle Club and is past president. He encourages other musicians and young fiddlers starting out. Lorimer has composed 26 fiddle tunes that he has published, has two CDs, and numerous LP albums.
